1 Million Cups St. Paul

1 MC Saint Paul

1 Million Cups is based on the simple idea that entrepreneurs sharing cups of coffee in person will build relationships and share resources that grow and strengthen the entire community.

The country as a whole has seen a decline in entrepreneurial rates over the last 3 years. Minnesota specifically continues to be on the low end of national entrepreneur activity rates, according to the Kauffman Index of Entrepreneurial Activity 1996- 2013.

1 Million Cups helps fight against this continued decline by creating a nationwide community of entrepreneurs. Currently 45 cities are participating in 1 Million Cups and according to Nate Olson, one of the program’s founders, “1 Million Cups is the front door to every entrepreneurial community in the country”. This means that 1 Million Cups – St. Paul, at the James J. Hill Center, is part of a patchwork, connecting entrepreneurs in the Twin Cities to communities across the U.S. This type of network opens up markets and audiences that would have been inaccessible or at least difficult to connect with by solo entrepreneurs.

Every Wednesday

Starting July 16th, 1 Million Cups St. Paul will be hosted at the James J. Hill Center and organized by The Hill and Agency NORD.

These presentations will be every Wednesday starting July 16th from 9 AM – 10 AM.

How it works

1 Million Cups – St. Paul is free to attend. And it only works if you show up. Just think about what you can accomplish for your business by participating in this regular meeting of other entrepreneurs, businesses, investors and community members.

Presenters give a 6 minute educational presentation about their business and then engage in 20 minutes of feedback and questioning. Presenters gain insight into how they can improve their business and possibly connect to resources or other businesses that can help move them forward.

The audience also learns from these presentations. Pre-startups may want to gain insight into what their next steps look like through listening to these presentations. A business owner in the audience may be looking for new ideas on how to improve their business.

Visit 1 Million Cups St. Paul to RSVP.

If you are an early startup and would like to share your story with this community, please fill out a Request to Present application.

We are in the process of renovating the James J. Hill Center to make the space more accessible to individuals with wheelchairs or limited mobility. This construction includes major renovation of our interior elevator. Due to this renovation, elevator access to the building and second floor for persons with accessibility constraints will be limited. A manual mobility Liftkar operated by a trained JJ Hill staff person will be available so that individuals in wheelchairs have access to our space. To schedule assistance before your visit, or if you have questions, please contact 651.265.5500. Unfortunately we are unable to transport electric scooters. Elevator construction will begin October 31, 2016 until completion in April, 2017. We apologize for any inconvenience during this construction. Thank you for your understanding.

This project has been financed in part with funds provided by the State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society and the F. R. Bigelow Foundation.
